E-EF transformers:

It is the most widely used type of ferrite.

It is suitable for:

  • Power applications, where they can work up to 500KHz, with high saturation materials and low core losses.
  • High voltage transformers.
  • Pulse transformers
  • Ignition modules.
  • Applications for signal transmission.
  • Interference suppression chokes.

This series offers greater ease of winding and assembly:

  • For winding, horizontal and vertical format reels are available, with inserted terminals designed for complete automation.
  • For smaller formats, reels with surface mount terminals are available.
  • As for ferrite formats, there is a wide variety, from E5.5 to E65 and even low-profile formats used in planar technology.

EFD Transformers:

Transformers designed and manufactured with EFD format cores are characterized by having an optimized geometric section and therefore, all designs are extremely compact and flat.

This type of transformer is widely used in AC/DC switching power supplies with direct or push-pull converter typology; in DC/DC converters; in the output blocks of any type of converter, whether AC/DC or DC/DC and in pulse transformers.

Currently available formats range from EFD10 to EFD30. With this range of cores, converters of up to 200W can be obtained, working at a switching frequency of about 500KHz.

Depending on the regulations to be applied, they may have different insulation between primary and secondary.

Regarding the reels that can be used, they are all horizontal in format. With two types of terminals, for PCB and for SMD surface mounting.

All EFD SMD surface mount reels can be automatically inserted.

EP Transformers:

The cubic shape of the EP cores represents an excellent ratio between volume and surface area occupied on the PCB, and therefore allows high packing densities on the PCB.

As the winding is enclosed inside the core, except for the part facing the PCB, it offers excellent shielding from external sources.

Due to its compact design and the use of high permeability materials, low leakage inductances are achieved, as well as excellent properties for low signal transmission.

Small formats are suitable for high frequencies, while larger ones are recommended for low frequencies.

EP cores are increasingly used in power applications, being able to work up to 300KHz.

The reels have inserted terminals, which facilitates their automation, and depending on the format they are available with terminals for insertion into PCB or for SMD surface mounting.

ER Transformers:

It is a low profile format available in high permeability ferrites, making them suitable for signal transmission and impedance matching applications.

On the other hand, they are also used in power applications up to a frequency of 500KHz.

The available reels only have surface mount terminals.

ETD Transformers:

Transformers manufactured and designed with ETD format cores have the characteristic that the geometric section is constant along the entire magnetic path.

Furthermore, as the central branch of the core has a circular section, the transformers are robust, compact and reliable.

This type of ferrite has been designed basically for energy transfer, which is why the ETD core is widely used in AC/DC Switching Power Supplies with direct, indirect or push-pull typologies; in all types of DC/DC converters and in most converter output inductors as an energy storage element and as a filter.

Currently, ETD cores from ETD-14 to ETD-59 format can be used.

With the ETD-59 format, powers of around 1500W can be achieved, working at a switching frequency of around 500 KHz.

The reels are specifically designed to comply with all types of safety regulations, with multiple openings to allow any type of winding, whether with copper wire, litz wire or copper screen.

The materials used for the injection of the reel are classified as UL 94V-0.

The reels can be horizontal and vertical.

All models have terminals to be inserted into the PCB; the distances between the terminals are standard.

The cores can be held by two metal flanges.

PM transformers (POT CORE)

Its main feature is that the core completely encloses the winding. As a result, the leakage inductance is very low, while offering excellent shielding against external EMI sources.

There is a wide range of sizes, as well as materials, which allows its use in a wide variety of applications, even working above 100 MHz and up to 300 KHz.

The main features are:

  • High quality resonant inductors.
  • Low distortion signal matching transformers.
  • Power applications.

Applications:

In telecommunications and industrial electronics as pulse transformers in radar transmitters, chokes for switching power supplies, etc.
