Spot welding

An opportunity to learn about spot welding

To know the spot welding we need to know how it works.

Its objective is to join superimposed metal pieces, usually metal sheets, through small electrodes, where pressure and electric current are continuously applied.

It has great advantages over more traditional or conventional welding, especially in terms of quality and subsequent work. Some of these countless advantages are:

  1. Higher quality, although it will always depend on the capabilities and skills of the worker.
  2. Automation of teams but with the need to adjust intensities.
  3. It leaves no marks or malformations and its subsequent review is not necessary

What elements does it consist of?

Are very complex machines as for components, but very easy to handle if you know all its uses. It consists of:

  1. Power outlets.
  2. Refrigeration system.
  3. Welding gun.
  4. Pneumatic welding clamp.
  5. Manual welding clamp.
  6. Control Panel.

All this together with a stable power grid and one dry air coolingIt is important to highlight that whenever possible there is avoid the use of extension cords or external connection cables.

Spot welding process

We're getting down to business, so stay tuned. attentive How we do it:

  1. We put the plates that we want to weld between the tweezers.
  2. Telectrode lowering time: This is the time interval that elapses from the beginning of the lowering of the electrodes until the current finally passes.
  3. Welding: Known as the time interval during which the electric current is passing.
  4. Forging: Time between when the current is stopped and the electrodes are slowly separated.
  5. Cooling: We remove both the pressure and the electrodes. We would now have our pieces joined by points.

There is also the double spot welding, but it is only advisable to use it in those cases where there is no direct access to the pieces on both sides. Its only rule is that the thickness of the sheet metal or the object that is at the bottom must be greater than that which is at the top.
